Duel votes

Post by Puckohue »

Currently, the list of characters allowed to vote on duels is "all the characters who do not belong to the same Tribes, Regiments, Cults, and/or Guilds as the two estranged parties."

Since the cult of Orlanth is very common (for good reasons), maybe we should change this?

Maybe all characters should be allowed to vote?

I am inclined to agree, especially since Orlanth is a warrior cult. At present, as I calculate it, only Erinestra, Selena and Brystan can vote on Erik's dispute with Harold.

Good idea. Either everyone can vote, or alternatively just exclude those in the same regiment or tribe.

Particularly as people can join more than one cult!

I think it makes sense to draw up a list of candidates based on the kind of duel being proposed, with the GM having final say:

Accusations of failure to follow the teachings of your cult or similar: All those in your cult.
Accusations against members of another cult: all those except members of the cults in question.
More general accusations of dishonour: everyone except same regiment

I don't get a sense that people are really playing strongly along tribal lines, whereas there's certainly going to be a sense of loyalty or potential recriminations if you are in a subordinate position in the same regiment. It could even be an interesting thing if some resentment was stirred up if it was felt there were injustices due to tribal favouritism. Most of us are playing very nice. Harold not turning up to the royal balls has been the only scandal I can recall ever happening in Boldhome except the antics of Broar and it's not even certain it was deliberate rather than an oversight that has penalised them heavily.

If both parties are Orlanthi, certainly that is not a bar. But if only one is, might not that give an unfair advantage?
