A season of celebrations

Ladies and gentlemen of Boldhome,

With the summer battles now hard-won, feasting is well underway and there's no sign of it stopping this side of Sacred Time. If you require personal service from me, please make early arrangements for fittings before the feast in the third week of Late Earth and the Royal Wintertop feast in the first week of Early Dark when I anticipate being on campaign.

THe really forward looking of you might also consider early fittings for the no fewer than three Royal feasts in Late Dark! All being well I will be back in Boldhome in time to welcome the arrival of my firstborn, but the workload is going to be overwhelming to make so many new garments that month. I have it on good authority that truly prestigious volumes of food and drink will be rolling into the city to fill the royal storehouses, putting to shame my own wagon loads of fine cloth, brocade and trinkets.

Fionn made his way into the familiar precincts of Silks and Sapphires. It was so difficult to know what his ceremonial dress should be these days. The uniform of a well-known soldier (perhaps even a war hero), seeking promotion to Warchief? The surplice of a teacher following the great Lhankor Mhy? Or the robes of a simple scholar and Loremaster? It would be good to get the advice of those more used to fashion and etiquette.

My Dear Grumbold,

Thanks for your notice. I shall be looking for new robes for up to five Royal Feasts in the next few months, so I trust that your supplies of silks and suchlike will be up for the job. I will also be looking for some suitable gifts and, of course, my usual extra spending each month.
I must assure you that I have always been very happy with the prompt and excellent service you have provided. I in no way blame the quality of the gift I proffered to the lady Yealla when I made my unsuccessful proposal last month for her refusal. I am certain that she has decided that I must prove my devotion by refusing to be put off at the first obstacle. Which may well prove expensive for me and profitable for your business!
My congratulations to yourself and Oneldna on your coming happy event.

Your friend,
Eric Stargazer

Grumbold welcomed Fionn and expounded at some length while displaying a dazzling variety of outfits.

"The clothes you wear are a powerful tool for sending out the right message. Not only of status but of intent. It is certainly possible to blend in motifs to indicate all your roles: Your noble rank, your military rank, your priestly rank, your attentiveness toward your companion and your position of lecturer in the battle school. But it can create a bolder look if you focus on one.

"What matters is what signal you want to send. With so many feasts on the horizon, you could choose to emphasise your role as strategist and scholar at the first, to underscore your military knowledge. Then at the second, you might wear something purely fitting your noble rank, the finest fabrics and jewels but but with a martial cut. The feast that precedes you leading your troops to battle you could then wear something far more regimental in style to underscore your intention to go on campaign and win battle honours to secure your new rank."
