OOC: The table of punishments for being found guilty in a case brought by the Deputy of Public Harmony seems very basic (and is taken straight from the original Paris based rules). Perhaps there could be a wider range, including fines at all levels, having to do penance by going on a cult mission or Runequest, loss of titles or rank within cult or military, loss of CHA, a ban on promotion for a period (possibly combined with compulsory military service), imprisonment for a period etc., as well as the current penalties. No doubt players could make suggestions.
A suggestion for a possible table of punishments. Please suggest improvements.
Punishment Tables
A. Banishment
1. Banished for D12 months
2. Banished for D6 months
3. Banished for D3 months
4. Sent to front for D12 months
5. Sent to front for D6 months
6. Sent to front for D3 months
Note: Whilst banished the character must go to tribal lands for duration of sentence. They can visit families (own or lovers) and may practice with tribal weapons or strength. They may choose at any time to volunteer for the front with their tribal levies or Sun Dome Templars.
If sent to front they may serve with tribal levies or Sun Dome Templars. If they command their own unit, they may volunteer that unit if granted permission by their immediate superior (npc will grant permission on 6+ on a D6). They may not return until the end of a period.
B. Missions/Heroquests
1. Sent on Cult mission
2. As 1
3. As 1 but mission will be a minimum of 4 turns.
4. Must go on Heroquest next Sacred Season
5. As 4
6. As 4 but Heroquest may not be an easy one.
Note: If character is follower of more than 1 cult they may choose which cult to perform mission for. If they are not currently members of a cult they will be appointed to rank of Initiate of Eurmal. (If their CHA is less than 3 it will be raised to 3 immediately. Eurmal likes his jokes.) If they have to heroquest, but are not a Runelord, a Runelord of Eurmal will lead a quest for them. They may choose to go on this or on one led by a pc.
C. Fined
1. Fined 50% of wealth
2. Fined 50% of wealth and all horses confiscated
3. Fined 50% of wealth and all property, including shops, confiscated
4. Fined 75% of wealth
5. Fined 75% of wealth and all horses confiscated
6. Fined 75% of wealth and all property, including shops, confiscated
D. Demoted
1. Reduced in military rank 1 level
2. Reduced in military rank 2 levels
3. Reduced in military rank 3 levels plus lose highest title
4. Reduced in cult rank 1 level
5. Reduced in cult rank 2 levels
6. Reduced in military and cult rank 2 levels plus lose all titles.
E.Serious punishment.
1. Made to do public penance
2. As 1 but with flogging
3. As 2 but with serious flogging
4. Amputation of limb
5. Amputation of limb with flogging
6. Death.
Note: On public penance the character must walk barefoot and clad in sackcloth through the streets of Boldhome. This is a public spectacle and other pcs may attend to jeer or commiserate as they wish. They will get the penitentsCHA/2 in cps for attending. Character will lose D6 levels of CHA for humiliation (except if a 6 isrolled they have captured the sympathy of the crowd and will gain 1 CHA level). If flogged the character must roll on wounds table. If seriously flogged they roll twice and take higher roll.
Amputated limbs will be randomly chosen.
Floggings. Amputations and executions are carried out by King’s Executioner.
