Civilian Travel Options

Post by Quatlu »

I was wondering about taking a trip home to see family, and wanted to know what manner of conveyances are available to take mistresses along in comfort? Can we hire coaches, do the ladies ride horses side-saddle, or is there some other means of accomplishing such a trip? What costs and preparations are required to make such a trip safely? Are escorts needed for security? How long does it take to travel in Sartar territory, both by roads and cross-counter where no roads exist? Some characters have homes farther away from Boldhome that others. If I have missed anything, I'd appreciate hearing about that as well.

Many thanks!

By Mastakos, surely a loyal son (or daughter of Sartar) only needs their own two legs to travel in style. I grant that a chariot DOES look good though. Hmm, when I open my new store in a season or two I will have to offer MOTs (Mastakos Ordained Transport). Now there's an idea...

The most common riding animal in Sartar is the horse. Uncommon riding animals include the bison, zebra, sable antelope, high llama, impala, rhinoceros, bolo lizard, riding beetle, etc.

There are very few delicate ”ladies” in Boldhome, and the concept of side-saddle is unheard of.

Carts are common, but not covered carriages.

All tribes are within a week’s travel. For simplicity travel times are neglected.

Thanks to Puckohue for his response on my questions for family visitation travels. So the ladies will ride along side their men... I like it! The gods know that our female warriors are hale enough to do so successfully, so that settles that. And it seems chariots are an uncommon sight, though I liked the concept Erinestra... perhaps they are better left to the gods as a suitable conveyance...

In response to Erik's suggestion, Qualtu likes the idea of such a highly mobile and armored mount, but acquiring one might be the challenge there. A hero quest goal? Perhaps a rhino instead, although like the hippo, they are notoriously short tempered and are the purview of the Rhino Riders.

Thanks to all for their input on this question!

Quatlu, my friend

As it so happens if you're looking for transport, a coach I believe has been mentioned, well you need look no further as cousin Broar has one he left here, along with a couple of horses, and since he's not coming back to Boldhome I can do you a good deal on them! It's a pretty decent one too, none of your standard run of the mill ones, there's a nice set of comfy seats, ideal for impressing any lady friend you may like to take along, with, I may add, a heavy curtain across the windows if you would like a bit of 'privacy' with said lady, on a journey somewhere, a couple of official Cult Broar the Benevolent Runes and markings on the side of it PLUS a seat up front for a driver. There's even a compartment at the back so you can carry whatever items you wish, clothes, tools, weapons, valuables etc

I can let you have it for 200 lunars and I'll throw in the 2 horses for an extra 100 lunars so the whole package, an impressive package, is a mere 300 lunars. Send me the funds and I'll have one of my fellows drive it over to you.

Look forward to doing business with you.

Thank you for the offer of a carriage for transport of the ladies. However, we have been informed that Sartar women do not need to travel in coaches, but can tough it out with their men. Therefore, I will pass on your opportunity.
